// everything you need to get up and running on greg

> step 1: get the plex app_

where do i download plex? the official plex app is free on every platform. grab it here:
smart tvs (lg, samsung), roku, fire tv, chromecast, and most game consoles also have official plex apps in their app stores. use the native app — the web browser player is garbage and will transcode everything.

> step 2: connect to greg_

how do i find greg inside plex? you need an invite. if you have a wizarr invite link, use it — it creates your plex account (if needed) and accepts the server share in one shot. greg will then appear automatically in your plex app under your home libraries or under "more > other servers."
i don't have an invite link. email greg@weirdplexbutok.biz or hit up thomas directly.

> step 3: fix your quality settings_

it's buffering. why? plex defaults to low quality to protect servers from transcoding load. greg has the bandwidth — you just need to tell it to use it.
in the plex app: settings → quality → remote streaming → set to original or maximum. do the same for local streaming. this sends the raw file instead of a re-encoded stream.
should i enable hardware-accelerated decoding? yes. always. settings → advanced → enable hardware-accelerated video decoding. offloads decode to your gpu, kills battery drain on mobile, and handles 4k hdr without dropping frames.
still buffering after all that. check your internet. 4k hdr needs roughly 50–120 mbps. if you're on wi-fi, try 5ghz or move closer to your router. if you're on a vpn, turn it off — most vpns choke media streams.

> requesting content_

how do i ask for new movies or shows? use the request portal → (overseerr). log in with your plex account, search, and hit request. fully automated — most things show up within a few hours.
my request has been pending forever. availability varies by indexer. if it's been 48+ hours and it's a mainstream title that's actually out on home media, shoot an email to greg.

> jellyfin_

what's jellyfin? greg also runs jellyfin → — open-source, no feature gates, no plex pass required. same library. if you want access, ask thomas. it's a separate account from plex.
which should i use? plex for most people — better app ecosystem. jellyfin if you hate plex's upsell screens, want true offline downloads without a plex pass, or are running a custom client like infuse.

> support & contact_

how can i help keep this running? 140tb of spinning disks plus a modern cpu isn't cheap on the electric bill. if you use greg daily, tossing a few bucks goes directly toward hardware and electricity. venmo, paypal, and zelle (qr on the main page) all work.
something is broken. email greg@weirdplexbutok.biz. thomas checks it eventually.
